Transition Services for Students
Author
Joni Schmalzried, MS, Director of Special Education

Instructional event #6

Closing Thoughts:

The module you just completed truly only scratches the surface of transition planning. With a broad overview and understanding of the legal requirements, the domains of transition, how planning is incorporated within the school environment, and a connection to additional resources, you are ready to take your learning to the next step. Connect with those within your school corporation who are involved in transition planning; talk with an adult agency provider to determine their role; discuss with a secondary student and/or family how transition planning is occurring for them. Find out how transition planning is happening around you.
To provide the best transition planning for students with disabilities – be prepared to not just listen to their interests, needs, and concerns – be ready to hear them. After you hear them, be ready for them to change their minds…as for all of us…

Transition is a journey, not a destination.

Welcome to the journey!
