Instructional Event # 3:
As was identified in the above resources, there are specific identified domains of transition that must be addressed to adequately plan for all students. Even though at certain points and for some students, areas may not be deemed appropriate, it is still important to openly communicate with both students and parents/guardians. Educators must not assume to know what a student wants, or speak for the family’s needs and desires. It is important, therefore, that the case conference committee look at each domain and have an understanding of what potential activities and outcomes are possible. Successful transition planning includes taking risks, walking outside of the normal activity base, and listening and respecting our students. Complete the following activity to help you better explore and understand the transition domains and their potential.
