Instructional Event # 2:

To ensure that you have a basic understanding of the current legislation behind transition planning, you will locate the information below. When you have completed exploring this information, develop your own ½ to 1 page overview concerning the requirements and needs of individual transition planning. It is important to look at your own experiences and situations and reflect on how individual transition planning can and will affect your personal or educational goals.

• Review the governing laws indicated in IDEA 1997 (and revised in 2000), for Transition Services. Link to the Publications of the National Center on Secondary Education and Transition at http://www.ncset.org/publications/default.asp  , under Policy Updates, click on IDEA 1997: Implications for Secondary Education and Transition Services.

• Access Indiana’s Article 7 Guidelines for Transition Services by linking to the Indiana Department of Education, Division of Exceptional Learners website:

• Explore the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community website. Look through “transition to adult life” and gain insight into the many sides of transition. http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/cclc/transition1.html
