Section 3: Customizing the Kurzweil Toolbars

When you first launch Kurzweil, you see only two toolbars, the Main Toolbar and the Reading Toolbar.

However, you can display up to four standard toolbars.

To add toolbars, choose Tools -> Customize from the Main Menu, or simply right-click anywhere on an empty toolbar space to access the fast menu.

Let’s add the Study Skills Toolbar in large format, and let’s add the Writing Toolbar by clicking to the left.

You can further customize each toolbar by using the Customize Toolbars box. Note that each toolbar has its own tab. We are on the Main Toolbar tab.

The Active Buttons window shows you which buttons are currently displayed on the toolbar.

To delete a button, select that button and click Remove.

My student is a good speller, so I don’t think he will need this tool.

To add a button, choose a button from the inactive controls window in the lower right hand corner.

The Read the Web button would be useful, so we select it and click Add.

Let’s move the Read the Web button, that we just added, closer to the other reading controls by selecting it in the Active Buttons window and using the left arrow.

When you finish making your changes, click Apply, and OK.

If you make a mistake, don’t worry, you can always click Defaults to restore the default settings at any time.

This concludes Section 3.
