Instructional Evaluation - Discussion List
To create a document using Kurzweil, choose New from the Main Toolbar.
To hear characters, words, or sentences echoed as you type, choose Tools -> Options, and on the General tab, check the appropriate boxes.
We’ll choose to hear words and sentences. (Kurzweil reads, “but” “not” “It was a dark night, but not stormy.”)
Text parameters such as font, size, style, alignment, and spacing are controlled on the Writing Tool Bar.
To use word prediction, click the word prediction icon.
As you type, a list of possible words appears in the Word Prediction box. Use the Control key plus the number of the word to insert it into your document.
The first word I want to type is “the”, so I’ll use Control-1. My second word is “ trouble”, which appears in space 9, so I’ll use Control-9. Control-1. (Kurzweil reads, “started” “when”)
Now I typed that sentence earlier to try it, and Kurzweil remembered what I had started to type.
To turn word prediction off, just click in the Close box.
(Kurzweil reads aloud as words are typed, “a strange object landed in my front” “The trouble started when a strange object landed in my front yard.”)
Kurzweil also features a talking spell checker. To check the spelling, click the Spelling icon. You can have the choices read. (Kurzweil reads, “front” “fruit” “fount”)
When you’ve made your selection (Kurzweil reads, “front”), click Change.
When you are finished creating a document, you can save it in several formats.
The choices are:
• Rich Text Format (RTF),
• Text File, or
• MS Word.
Or, you can choose File -> Export, and export the file in PDF or in ASCI format.
By choosing File -> Send To, you can export your file as an email or email attachment.
Let’s choose Text.
Kurzweil launches your browser, and wraps the text for you. All you have to do is change the subject line and select a recipient from your address book.
This concludes Section 14.
