This module is intended to outline the federal and state requirements, under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA 04) and Indiana’s Article 7 regarding the written notice public agencies are required to provide parents of students with disabilities or to students with disabilities eighteen years old or older. Users will gain an understanding of when written notice is required to be provided to parents or eligible students with disabilities as well as the required components of the written notice. The module will also outline when and how the public agency must obtain parental consent for initial placement and provision of special education and related services.
Upon completion of this module the user will be able to:
- Explain when written notice must be provided to parents of students with disabilities or to students with disabilities over the age of 18.
- Identify the required elements of the written notice.
- Review a sample of a Written Notice and adapt the sample to meet local public agency needs
